Founded in the 1990s, this ten-hectare vineyard is distributed over Barolo and La Morra and is farmed organically whenever possible. The wine has tertiary flavors of dried berries, walnuts, autumn leaves, dried meats, thyme, and rosemary as a result. The palate is thick and deep, with full, robust tannins and a lot of dark berry fruit. If you don't plan on drinking it right away, decant it because it will last for 10 years or more.

This is an excellent example of why Olivier Cazenave is breaking the mold in Bordeaux winemaking. Because Olivier blended five vintages of Cabernet Franc in a solera-style method, this is a Vin de France. Lots of dark fruits and blackberry compote on the nose, with a hint of liquorice. Smooth ripe tannins and a wonderful simplicity of fruit characterize the palate.

Sara Perez manages this estate with zeal and vigour, highlighting the various terroirs of Priorat. With a blend of Garnacha and foreign types such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, the Mas Martinet reflects the new era of winemaking in this region. Dark fruits, kirsch, nutmeg, and vanilla dominate the nose. Black cherry, mocha, and salty licorice dominate the palate, which is complemented by strong tannins. This wine begs to be paired with a substantial stew or grilled lamb.

The 2004 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a refined and complex wine that combines subtlety and depth. It has a dark ruby color with a deep red edge and displays aromas of fresh blackberries, violets, cola, nutmeg and licorice. In the mouth, the wine has a juicy attack and offers great expression of fruit and spice on the mid-palate. Its fruit-driven finish is long and elegant. Properly cellared, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2023.
